Sue McAbery

Back

Sue McAbery was born in Portland and lived there for several years until her family moved to Rhododendron. She attended Sandy and Catlin High Schools. She took piano lessons through grade and high school, and wanted to play bassoon in the high school band, but the school didn't have one, so she played flute and trombone at Sandy. She received a BA in English from Colorado College.

When her children were all in school she became interested in emergency medicine, and was first a volunteer emergency technician and later, after studying nursing at Mt. Hood Community College, worked as an Emergency Department RN. About twenty-five years ago she got her first bassoon and studied with Bonnie Cox of Portland. She soon started playing with the Mt. Hood Pops, and has been there ever since. Some of her interests are horses, hiking, downhill skiing, and of course her children and their families, who all live in the area.
