Back

Jon FrenchAnnouncer and trombonist Jon French began playing the trombone in 5th grade. With the exception of a few basketball games performing with the Washington State University pep band, Jon dropped out of playing after high school.

While serving four years with the Air Force after graduation in Sacramento, California, Jon joined a community band. He has been playing in adult groups ever since. He currently belongs to the Portland Rose Festival OMTAAMB (One More Time Around Again Marching Band) - the world's largest marching band, the Get-A-Life Marching Band, the Power Pep Band, and the Mount Hood Pops Orchestra. Jon joined the Pops a couple of years after it was created, making him one of the 'oldies' in the orchestra.

Jon is a retired electrical engineer from the Bonneville Power Administration and a retired Lt. Col. from the Oregon Air National Guard. He also is very involved at certain times of the year in announcing swim meets, including having announced the Oregon High School Swim Championships since the late 1980's.

He lives in Gresham with wife Jeanette, and has two grown daughters, one (Gina) married living in Portland, Maine, and the other (Brigitte) in the Air Force.
