A MESSAGE FROM THE POPS’ PRESIDENT

The Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra needs your immediate assistance! For the past several years, the Board of Directors has been losing members - terms have expired; people have moved or have had major life changes. All have been good reasons, but the board now consists of just four members, with a fifth person as a candidate. We would prefer to have at least nine people on the board.

Board meetings are held on the second Monday evening of each month, and last only about 60 to 90 minutes; there may be a little committee work between meetings, but because the main business of the orchestra is making music, we have been able to roll along with a light hand on the guidance of the group.

Please consider helping us out as either a committee member or as a full board member in the very near future. The group needs guidance as we approach the start of our twenty-sixth season of "...enriching our community through music". You may send an email to either our orchestra manager, Marilyn Pierik, or myself at the address listed on the contacts page.

July, 2008

I am currently in my fourth year as President of the Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra. I continue to serve past my three year expiration date because, simply put, there have been no applicants for my position – I won’t call it a job, as that is something done for money. I do this for love of the arts, and orchestral music in particular.

The Pops, after twenty-five years of performing, is at a crossroads. For us to continue to ‘enrich our community through music’, we need more volunteers to help us conduct the business of the orchestra. Ours is one of only a few community orchestras that does not require monetary contributions from our board members; all we desire is a donation of time.
Our volunteer Board of Directors is currently four members short of the number needed to effectively conduct business - we need just four more people (six would be better – eight would be great!) to volunteer their time, talents, and (perhaps most importantly) energy, to help guide this orchestra to our golden anniversary in 2032. Musicianship is not a requirement to serve. I hope you will consider joining our Board of Directors. We meet at 7:00 pm the second Monday of each month in the Pops office, located at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 17405 NE Glisan St., Portland.
